The training laboratory stand NTC-22.05.13 “Study of first order phase transition – melting” is designed for studying the processes of metal heating and melting.
The stand consists of a heating module and a control module.
The heating module consists of a metal body, in which a cylindrical heating element is installed. A vessel with the investigated metal is placed inside the heater. Solder PIC 60 is used as the metal pattern. The heating temperature is measured by an embedded thermocouple.
The control module is used for setting the power of the heating module, measuring the current and the voltage of the heating element, measuring the temperature of the test pattern, and transferring the measurement results to a personal computer (not included in delivery set) via USB-port.
For the experiment, the heating unit is connected to the control unit, which is connected to a PC via USB-port. When the unit is switched on, the heating of the metal pattern starts, and the change of the pattern temperature and the heating element power is displayed in real time in graph form on the PC screen. Using the results of the work, the temperature and the specific heat of fusion of the test pattern can be determined.
The laboratory unit is equipped with a computer-animated model of the experiment, which is designed for the visualization of the thermal processes occurring in the pattern, and can be used in order to prepare for the laboratory work in the study of the theoretical foundations of the phenomenon of phase transition.
