The training laboratory system clearly demonstrates the operating principle of gyro compass: the axis of an electric motor holds its initial position during any movement of a base. With the help of a counterbalance, which is installed coaxially with the flywheel rotation axis, we can observe and investigate the phenomenon of gyroscopic precession under the applied forces moment, which can be easily measured by the change of the counterbalance motion pattern axially. The stand allows to observe the change of motion pattern under the forced rotation of external frame, and experience the occurence and the effect of gyroscopic moment. The stand provides the possibility to conduct the experiment on gyroscope precession speed determination.

The stand consists of the gyroscope itself and a measurement unit. The body of the gyroscope is an electric motor with a flywheel, which is installed on axis extremity. On the opposite extremity there’s the counterbalance (a disk with a jam nut), which is used to create a free balanced system relatively to horizontal axis and to get the applied forced moment, which causes gyroscopic precession.

The electric motor body with the flywheel of semiaxises, which are orthogonal to rotational axis, is installed on a U-type frame, capable for rotation on the base. On the base there’s a bubble lever installed for regulation of the base horizontal position, and an optic electrical rotation angle sensor.

The training system is powered from the measurement unit.

In its panel there are:

four-digit indicator of the rotational speed of the frame around vertical axis;
flywheel start switch and motor start indicator.

The training system is supplied with technical and methodical documentation for teaching staff.
